How to design a storage facility for any liquid material, in this post we are not going to discuss this topic generally, instead we choose a case study for liquid propane storage facility.
Propane Storage Facility
The propanestorage tank serves as a buffer and feedstock storage for the PDH plant. Thepropane is stored under virtually atmospheric conditions.
Warm shipunloading is done via unloading facilities and transfer line of UGDC.
A flow ofmax. 150 t/h at max. 50 0C and 20 kg/cm2 abs can behandled by propane unloading unit.
The propanerefrigeration system is also designed to handle cold ship unloading.
Undernormal operation a part of the liquid propane feedstock is supplied via apipeline from UGDC while the balance feed is transferred from the propanestorage tank to the PDH plant.
Ø The propane storage facility compose the followingcomponents:
§ Propane storage tank
§ Refrigeration system for pressure control of storagetank and import of cold propane
§ Refrigeration system for import of warm propane
§ Propane feed-preheating and transfer system to PDHplant
Ø Propane unloading unit composes the followingcomponents:
§ One propane centrifugal compressor with lube oil system
§ One propane condenser
§ One propane receiver
§ Two propane flash vessels, working at differentpressure levels
§ One propane cooler working with cooling water
Thepropane unloading unit serves as a cooling system for receiving warm liquidpropane from B.L
Thepropane unloading is equipped with one propane centrifugal compressor and itscommon apparatus. The centrifugal compressor is designed for 100% of the totalload feed of warm propylene (500C) from B.L.
This unitis not in operation continuously.
